Magic in Ythïrea

The Gods are dead. Relying on the pantheon to function properly, arcane and divine magics are either weak or nonexistent in the world. After the Cataclysm, old tomes spontaneously combusted, ancient runes warped beyond recognition, and the stable weave became a tangled web.

The magic that remains is primal and chaotic or remnant magic (often stored in artifacts, though it’s use is fleeting). If you are a spell-caster, your power is drawn from either the Primal or Remnant Magic, but the former is unpredictable and the latter often has a cost.

All of that said, we begin play in the Walled City of Bazvallyr, where the use of illegal magic is punishable by death.
